Self Evaluation
1. What are the overall message about gender did you want to convey with the articles you selected and wrote? In the end, how successful do you think you were in conveying this overall message? Explain yourself as fully as possible, with specific reference to the content of your magazine.
~ When it comes to gender really the only message I wanted to prove was that woman should have an equal chance to participate in athletics. I also wanted to look at the reasons why woman and men might want to play sports and look into studies of the interest in men and woman regarding sports. I think I did a decent job at looking into everything I wanted to look into and discover. I used studies and I also used my interview with roach to discuss how genders participate in sports.
2. How about the advertisements you created? What was your thinking with them, and how effective do you think they were in capturing and conveying your overall message?
~ The advertisements I used were both about cheap sporting apparel. The idea was to show some "cheaper" alternatives for people who don't have enough money. If I was really making this website I would like to put advertisements on it that were selling sporting equipment cheap so that parents with less money could buy cheap equipment so their children could play the sports they want to play. I think it was hard trying to think of something catchy for advertisement for equipment. In my opinion the most important thing about equipment is it's dependable and gets the job done. I don't think I'd make the best advertiser.
3. What did you learn throughout the process of creating this magazine?
~ I think I learned most about just thought processes. Thinking of reasons people might not want to play sports other than an obvious dislike of them. People can not want to get involved in sports because of low self esteems. They can also want to play sports because they want to be popular of feel like they are apart of something. I always just played because I loved the game and I find it very interesting to think of all of the reasons people want to play. Also I found it interesting to see what race, gender, and socio-economic status has to do with who plays sports, what sports they play, and whether or not they feel comfortable, I wouldn't mind studying all of this more.
4. What do you think your magazine says, overall, about media and media representations in America?
~ My magazine doesn't talk about outside media very much, the college sports idea of it and the high school idea of it but I focused mainly on studies and barriers between social groups. I feel like the way I went about looking for information was a lot like how media normally does it.
